The styles and decorations of the clothing worn by the people of Peru, can vary by region. Examples of Peruvian clothing are: Ajotes; worn by both men and women, are the traditional sandals made from recycled tires. Monteras; a hat worn by women, with white beading, woven straps, and drapes downward. Polleras; also known as Melkkhay, is a layered skirt made from wool and has a hand-embroidered trim. Other types of clothing are; chullos, a knitt cap worn by Peruvian children and ponchos worn by men for special occassions.
