What do Labor Contractions Feel Like?

When you begin to have labor contractions, there is a feeling of a tightening around the stomach area and there can be a slight discomfort at the beginning stages, somewhat similar to menstrual cramping. As the labor contractions progress, they become longer and come within a shorter time frame and a little more intense. Labor contractions can last between 20 to 30 seconds and can be every 30 minutes or so. When labor contractions get closer to about 10 minutes, it is a good sign that it’s time to head to the hospital and have your new baby.
