What Degrees do You Need to Become a Surgeon?

There are no specific Surgeon degrees. What you’ll need to do is complete a residency program for the area of surgery you want to perform to meet the board of licensing requirements after you finish a M.D. degree. Residency programs are accredited by the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education). A general surgery training program is 6 years, that includes 5 years of clinical and 1 year of research.
