What Causes Swelling of the Ankles?

There are numerous reasons why ankles can swell. Injury to the ankle is a very common cause of swelling. Arthritis can cause swelling and is usually also painful. Infection can cause swelling but is not very common. Blood flow problems can cause swelling and even though it’s normally seen in one ankle, it can occur in both. Ankle swelling can be a serious symptom to an underlying problem so talking with a physician should be considered.
