What are the Stages of Digestion?

Digestion begins in the mouth. Teeth grind up the food and add saliva which begins the digestion process. The food passes through the esophagus when swallowed, and then enters the stomach. Hydrochloric acid breaks food down in the stomach into smaller molecules and liquefies the food. It passes through the small intestine where it continues to be broken down and absorb nutrients. It then passes through the large intestine where the waste products are finally eliminated through the rectum. You can find more information here:
