What are Stem Cell?

A stem cell is a cell whose job in the body is not yet determined. Every single cell in the body ‘stems’ from this type of cell, hence the name. When an embryo is dividing and growing, stem cells group and then are assigned their role — some collect in the head area and become brain cells, some to the chest to become heart cells and form a heart, others become blood cells, skin cells, etc., etc.! Scientists are studying stem cells to see how they might use them to generate healthy tissues to replace diseased tissues in humans and possibly find cures for diseases.
