What are Liberal Arts?

The term liberal arts refers to a group of disciplines which have been considered essential for the complete development of a person. The field of liberal arts has been studied since the early times of Plato around 300-400 B.C. Liberal arts covers the humanities (philosophy, art, foreign languages, etc.), social sciences, sciences and mathematics. Martianus Capella of the Classical world divided the field into two, namely, Travium and Quadrivium. Travium consisted of grammar, rhetoric and logic, while Quadrivium consisted of arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy. Look here for more information:
