Children normal start school at age 5 or when they are about to turn 5. I live in North Carolina and the cut off date for children to turn 5 used to be around the third week in October. I don’t know if this is everywhere, but not the cut off date is August 31, so if your child isn’t 5 by August 31, he or she can’t start school. So most kids will now be starting school around age 6, whether or not he or she is academically gifted, which means they are now going to have to do something about the age at which they kick someone out if he or she can’t complete high school. That current age is 21, but if some children can’t start school until 6, wouldn’t they raise that to 22? You would think so.
