Types of Shares?

Most commonly there are two types of stock. The first is common stock and the second is preferred stock. However, in some companies they will issue Class A and Class B stock in their common stock as well. This is done to keep the voting power or control of the company within a certain group. These classes of stock are given different voting rights. For example a Class A share may have 20 votes at the shareholder meeting where a Class B stock has only one vote.
