Types of Medicines?

There are three different types of medicines, over the counter, prescription and complementary. Over the counter includes most diet pills, cough syrups and mouth wash. Prescriptions require written authorizations from a doctor and include antibiotics, heavy duty pain killers and anti-depression medicines. Complementary medicines are not free, but instead, cost money. They don’t require a prescription and are considered alternative. Included in this class are vitamins and herbs.
