Types of Ions?

An ion is a molecule or atom that has a net positive or negative electrical charge because the number of electrons is not equal to the number of protons. If the ion has more protons than electrons, it is called a cation; if the ion has more electrons than protons, it is called an anion. Also, if the ion is made up of a single atom, it is called a monatomic ion; if the ion is made up of two or more atoms, it is called a polyatomic ion.
