How to Thicken Stew?

I love to cook and make a lot of stews and gravies. The way I thicken stew is by making a thickener of corn starch and water. Add the cornstarch to the stew just before boiling. If you add while boiling, it will clump. Add until you reach thickness desired. Some people use instant potato flakes to thicken; however, I’ve never used that method.
