How to Read a Vin?

The VIN number of a vehicle is unique to that vehicle and tells everything you need to know about the car. The first character identifies the country it was made in, the second character identifies the manufacturer and the third identifies the vehicle type. The fourth through the eight characters identify the body of the vehicle such as body type, engine type, model, series, etc. The ninth character is the check digit and verifies the VIN, the tenth identifies the model year, the eleventh identifies the assembly plant and twelve through seventeen identifies the sequence of the vehicle production.
