Networking two computers together is pretty simply. You will need a router (wireless or wired), network cable (RJ45) and a modem. First connect the router to the modem via network cable. This next step is to establish or setup the network. Connect the computer directly to the router (wireless or wired). Once the computer is connected, open explorer and type the router’s admin address in the address bar. You can find this information in your router’s documentation. Most router’s admin addresses are as follows 192.168.1.1 (Linksys), you will be asked for a user name and password, which is something like Admin/password or Admin/Admin. Once inside the console, you will select the wireless tab, enter the name of your network. It can be anything you choose. Then set your WEP key, which is a security code which allows access to the network. The WEP key can be 10-13 digits including letters. You can only use the letters A-F. (A11221999A). Make the key something easier for you to remember and hard for others to guess. After this is completed, you should see a pop-up on your computer stating New Wireless Network is Available. Disconnect your computer from the router, connect to the wireless network. To connect the next computer, click the New Wireless Network dialogue, enter the WEP key and your are done. You can add as many wireless devices as you like. If your computer is wired, simply connect it to the router via network cable.
