Make sugar crystals is a tasty and fun project. You will need 1 cup water, 3 cups sugar, a clean glass jar, a pencil, string, pan for boiling water, and a spoon. If you want to add color to your crystals, you will also need food coloring of your choice.Tie the string to your pencil and lay the pencil across the top of the jar making sure it doesn’t touch the edges or the bottom of the jar. Now, boil your water in the pan then add the sugar 1 teaspoon full at a time until it starts to gather at the bottom of the pan, even when stirring. This means your solution is saturated and ready. If you want to add color to your crystals, now is the time to add a few drops of food coloring. Pour your sugar liquid into the jar, making sure if you have undissolved sugar at the bottom of your pan, that it does not get into the jar. Next, place your pencil with the string tied on it across the top of your jar, and set the jar someplace where it will not be disturbed. You can also cover it with a paper towel if you like, to keep the dust out. Within 24 hours you should start to see your crystals develop. Once they have reached the size you desire of they have stopped growing, you can take them out and let them dry.
