To make simple biscuits you will need 2 cups of self rising flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1/3 cup shortening, and 3/4 cups of milk. Mix the flour and sugar and then using a pastry blender, or your figures, cut the shortening into flour mixture. Once mixed the flour should feel like a coarse mill. Add enough of the milk to make a soft dough. Knead the dough very gently for 10 minutes. Roll dough out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut biscuits out with a biscuit or cookie cutter. Place on baking sheet coated with nonstick cooking spray. Bake in a 425 degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes.
