How to Factor?

In order to factor you have to know how to divide. In factoring, all you are doing is dividing a number by all the possible whole numbers you can. An easy example: 10. What can you divide 10 by? Well, 1 gives you 10 as an answer. 2 gives you 5, and 3 and 4 don’t go in evenly, so skip them. Then you are back to 5 gives you 2. Skip 6, 7, 8, and 9 because they don’t give whole number answers either. Lastly, 10 gives you 1. You only write each factor once, so you would write it 1, 2, 5, 10 are the factors of 10.
