Manuals are nothing more than a specific set of instructions. Usually, they’re written by people who are selling a product so you know how to best use and take care of what you’ve bought or to explain how to do something you don’t know how to do already. When creating a manual, recognize exactly what you are trying to explain. Whether you’re telling someone how to use something for the first time or trying to help them do something they didn’t know before, the key is to be as specific as possible. It’s best to keep the mindset that the person who will be reading your manual has absolutely no clue as to what they’re doing and is completely relying on you. Provide step-by-step instructions on what you want them to do and with what. Putting instructions in a list form helps greatly. It’s also best to provide people with prerequisite list of things they should have or will need before they get started.
