Becoming a monk within the Catholic church requires discipline and a deep sense of devotion. Research different monastic orders and visit some of the monasteries you are interested in to get a feeling for their members, daily life and spirituality. Once you have decided which monastery you are interested in, contact the vocation director and arrange to take a monastic retreat. If it still feels right, become a novice at the monastery to begin to learn its life and spirituality. During this time, you will take your temporary vows which commit you to the monastery for 3 years. If you still wish to devote your life as a monk after that 3 year period, you will take your final vows and commit to the life permanently.
