How to Become a Medical Examiner?

To become a medical examiner you must first become a doctor that requires obtaining an undergraduate degree, doctor’s degree, and completion of a residency. You must then acquire certification as a licensed pathologist which requires that you pass a national exam through the American Board of Pathology. Once certified you must then apply for appointment by your state. Depending upon the state the medical examiner can be appointed for 2 to 4 years or until retirement.
