How Often do Solar Eclipses Happen?

Solar eclipses occur when the shadow from the Sun is formed and surrounds the Earth. This is because the Moon moves between the Sun and Earth. Total solar eclipses occur about every 54 years with regular eclipses in between. The most recent total solar eclipse, was on August 11, 1999, and the predicted date for next one is on September 12, 2053. However, on August 21, 2017, we are expecting to have a solar eclipse.
