Gold and other metals such as silver are not measured in the traditional 16 ounces equals a pound. Troy weight is used to determined gold. A troy weight is actually more than the normal pound, even thought it takes only 12 ounces to make a troy pound, four ounces less that the traditional pound which contains 16 ounces.
