How Much do Americans Spend on Christmas?

Since 2005, there has been a reduction in the amount Americans spend on Christmas. For example, there was a dramatic decline of 50% from 2007 to 2008, that is from $859 to $431. With the current severe economic downturn in the US and globally, and with so many thousands of persons unemployed, it is expected that 2009 will also see a decline in spending on the Christmas holidays.
