How is Soil Formed?

The materials that go into making soil are water, air, rock and decayed plants and animals. The basis for soil is formed when smaller pieces of rock break off larger pieces. This is the parent material of the soil. The decayed plants and animals then combine with the parent material to form nutrients for the soil. Water and air then fill in the spaces so that live animals can live in the soil. Soil can be a very complicated ecosystem.
