How is Gum Made?

Gum’s ingredients are: a gum base, sweeteners (sugar and corn syrup), and flavorings. The gum base has to be prepared by melting it down and sterilizing it in a steam cooker. It then goes through a machine to get rid of any unwanted materials like dirt and bark. Once melted and cleaned, sugar, corn syrup, and flavoring oils are added and stirred well. The mixture then goes through a pair of rollers (covered with powdered sugar) to flatten it like a ribbon. Finally the mixture goes through a second set of rollers that are equipped with knives to cut the ribbon into sticks and then individually wrapped by another machine.
