Diphtheria is a very contagious and is a life-threatening bacterial disease which can be spread by person to person contact. You can get diphtheria by breathing in the bacteria when someone has coughed or sneezed or by coming in close contact with discharges from an infected person’s mouth, nose, throat, or even skin. The diphtheria bacteria thrives in crowded conditions that have poor sanitation.
