How does the Stomach Function?

Stomach is a muscular sac-like organ that is meant for digestion. It performs variety of functions. First of all, it stores and holds the food coming from esophagus. Stomach releases acids and enzymes which help in breaking down of meal into simpler components, thus helping in digestion. In addition to that, these enzymes also help in killing bugs that we may ingest with our food. After all this, stomach then transports this partially digested fod to our intestine for maximal digestion and absorption.
