How does Iraq Celebrate Christmas?

In Iraq, Christmas day is celebrated on December 25, and since 2008 this day has been an official holiday, which is a first in the history of this country. The celebrations include a special ceremony held in yard of Christian families that involve the reading of the Nativity story, singing of psalms and the burning of thorns to ashes. Family members then jump over the ashes three times and make a wish. Church services are held on Christmas Day and also includes a bonfire as well as the ‘Touch of Peace’ with each person touching the person beside him or her. Look here for more information:
