Digital television is similar in some ways to analog television. With Digital TV, though, you do not need the traditional antenna to scan for stations. Instead, you need the receiver (like the government was handing out when everyone had to switch). Digital TV also allows broadcasters to have one main channel; however, they are also able to have many subchannels within that channel. Ever notice how PBS, for example, has multiple channels like 24-1, 24-2, etc? That’s why! With digital TV, broadcasters are able to choose from a variety of different formats, with 1080p currently being the best format.
