How does Child Support Work?

Child support is a process put in place to make sure that no one parent is stuck with the responsibility of raising a child by him or herself. The parent that has custody of the child will have to file with the state for child support. They will then go to court and an amount will be set by a judge. The parent that has been ordered to pay child support will then have to pay the monthly amount allotted by the judge. If they do not, they may face consequences such as loss of license or being locked up depending on the state in which the court order was filed.
