How do You Take Care of Baby Hamsters?

Pups, or baby hamsters, are best left in the care of their mother, who should be disturbed as little as possible. If mom becomes distressed, she may abandon, neglect, or even kill her babies. Provide mom with tissue to make a soft nest (the babies are hairless), provide fresh food and water in a calm manner, and don’t worry about cleaning the cage for a while. They should be ready to be weaned in about 3 weeks. If for some emergency reason you must move a baby, use a spoon, so that you don’t transfer your scent to the baby.
