How do You Get Cystic Fibrosis?

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease that affects your lung, pancreas and liver, just to name a few. It is found in the mucusy part of your body, and when you have the disease, the mucus that normally is thin and watery, that allows organs to stay moist and lubricated, gets thick and sticky. When this happens, the mucus builds up, in your lungs for example, and blocks the airways, causing a bigger risk for infection. Its been found that the disease is caused by a defective gene. When we are born we automatically carry a gene for the disease, but it doesn’t mean that we will suffer from it. There is a 25% chance that you can be born with the disease
