How do You Extract DNA?

Every living thing contains DNA. There is a step-by-step lab online at the University of Utah on how to you extract DNA. To extract DNA, break the cell open to allow access to the DNA. Place the DNA in a test tube. Add liquid detergent (about 2 tablespoons). Then add an enzyme such as meat tenderizer and a pinch of salt. Let the mixture sit for around 10 minutes. Then pour rubbing alcohol slowly down the side of the tube on top of the DNA mixture until you have as much alcohol as you do the DNA mixture. Look for the long, stringy stuff in the tube.
