How do You Cure a Cast Iron Skillet?

A cast iron skillet required a solid fat to be cured. This can be shortening or lard. The skillet should be wiped down with a light coating of fat and then placed into a hot oven of 350 degrees. Place the skillet onto a baking sheet to prevent the fat from dripping onto the heating element, which could pose a fire risk. Re-season your skillet on a regular basis to promote a non-stick coating surface.
