How do You Become a Congressman?

In the Congress of the United States, there are men and women elected to both houses. The one house is called the Senate and it’s members are called Senators. The second house is called the House of Representatives and it’s members are also elected to office by the people through the direct election process. Senators are more often than not people with legal backgrounds such as lawyers and state Senators. Each state has 2 senators and they serve staggered 6 year terms. The Representatives serves a two year term and each state is represented by at least one representative. The number of these is determined by the size of the state. In order to serve in the House of Representatives you must be at least 25 years old; have been a citizen of the U.S. for the past 7 years; and be a resident of the state you seek to represent. Each senator must be a minimum of 30 years old; a citizen of the U.S. for 9 years; and they must live in the state they are seeking to represent. For more information, look here:
